1) Reinforcement occurs for each response that follows the preceding response by at least some minimum delay.

2) Reinforcements occur only when the rate is below some specified value.

3) A behavior is reinforced only if it is expressed after a preset interval of time but has not been emitted during that interval. Example. A teacher compliments and calls on a student who waits 3 minutes before participating again.
